See and learn how I updated my dining room

The dining room was the second room we decided to tackle. Again, the room was in fairly good shape with the exception of the floors. Just a little wipe down, fresh paint and new decor and the room would be transformed.
Initially I was going to paint the room a light grey but decided to take a chance on a bold color. That color was burgundy. Since the room already had a chair rail on all 3 walls, I painted the lower half of the wall burgundy and top half a light cream, which flowed into the kitchen. I understand the trend now days is grey, light blue, white, white and more white but I figured since this was my first reno, why not play with colors, you can always change it later.
The furniture I chose to decorate the room with was an existing wood table I purchased from Marshalls a few years ago, a set of blue dining chairs I previously purchased from Homegoods and wine bar from Pier 1. I love this wine bar because not only did I get it while I was on my honeymoon but it was on SALE!!! Based on the colors I chose, the theme slowly morphed into my little Italian getaway. I found several pictures, one of a european bistro and the second was of a scenic canal and restaurant. The third picture I found was of an enchanted garden purchased from the Goodwill!!! This picture is great because it has a gleam of light shining on the left of the picture. I figured this would be a great addition to the dining room because I have a window on the left wall where I get constant light. So when looking at the picture you're given an elusion that the natural light from the window is shining into the garden.
Once the room was done, it was complete night and day. The room was transformed from a bare and outdated room to a mediterranean oasis.
I didn't go into the renovation with the idea of having themed rooms, but once I started painting and saw the potential and personal benefit I thought why not, this home isn't for anyone else but my husband and I.
When I was younger my family and I traveled a lot. One of the places that had a lasting impression on me was Venice and Florence, Italy. I was fascinated by the architecture and old world charm. Having those experiences not only helped me become more worldly and cultured but also plays a part in how I design.
